2004-05-19 2586 Kyoto, Nijo Castle nightingale floor

The Shoguns who lived in Nijo Castle were paranoid about security and had 'nightingale' floors installed which 'sang like a bird' when walked on to make sure no-one arrived un-announced. The noise was created by special crossed metal nails hammered into one side of each of the floor boards.
