Elijah Croucher born Kent about 1847

An interested person is seeking information about Elijah Croucher, possibly the brother of Louisa Croucher:

Correspondence along the following lines:

Correspondent: "I have an Elijah Croucher like you born about 1847 but mine had a father william. Would you have any info. I believe he was born in Kent possibly near Whitstable."

Me: "If your Elijah Croucher had a sister Louisa born around 1840, and if he migrated with his parents to New Zealand before 1865, we are probably talking about the same family. We don't have a huge amount to go on except that Louisa married into our line of Shepherds when she was living with her parents in New Zealand. Louisa then moved to Australia with her husband and family. I don't know what happened to Elijah, although others might. The family seems to have dispersed widely. I am aware of members in South Australia, Western Australia, New South Wales, New Zealand and California."

Correspondent:  "I cannot find any census info about Elijah at all so I do not know of his family. His wife Sarah is in the 1871 census living with her parents and then disappears. Could you please put me in contact with Louisa's descendant. Do you know if Louisa was born in Kent? They were in England in1870 when they married. he was a mariner." 

Me: "Our Louisa was certainly born in Kent and appears to have had a brother Elijah but he was 6 years older, not younger. And the family migrated to New Zealand before 1865. So not many parallels."

However, can any one help?
