Shared Note: - CHRISTOPHER WILSON (1775 - 1836) said by Osmond Wilson to be grandson of the above Christopher. Parents not traced. Born 1775/6. Baptism not found. His marriage licence is dated 29 Jun 1813 and his bride was Mary Allen (bap. at Lydd 8 Ma y 1790) eldest daughter of William and Ann (nee Shoosmith) Allen of Lydd, Kent. The marriage recorded at All Saints, Lydd states: "Christopher Wilson of the Parish of Deal, single man, and Mary Allen of this parish, spinster, were married in this church by licence, with the consent of her parents on the 13th day of July 1813, by me W.P. Warburton, vicar, in the presence of Willian and Ann Allen, parents, and William Smith, clerk. All signed in full" The latter part indicates that all parties were literate in an age when many could not read or write. Christopher being in the Royal Navy, and of officer rank, was of Deal, Kent where navy ships anchored in port. His place of birth and baptismal date could not be found. He was aged about 38 at this time and Mary was 23. She had poor health and was to die (of tuberculosis) at 39. Only 3 children could be traced and of these only the elder son survived.Children: (1) Elizabeth Wilson born C.1818 died aged 17 at the Allen family home, Lydd, on 15 May 1835 and was buried at Lydd Churchyard on 23 May 1835. There is a headstone extant. (2) ALLEN WILSON born 6 Apr 1820 at Lydd, but not baptised there. See further. (3)Christopher Wilson born 1822, London. Died there aged 1 year, 1823. DEATHS: as recorded- Mary Wilson (nee Allen) died at London and was buried there. A tablet to her memory in Lydd Church reads: "Sacred to the memory of Mary, wife of Christopher Wilson, Purser, R.N. and dau: of William and Ann Allen of this Town who died Sept. 4, 1829 aged 39 years. She was interred in the burial ground of St. James, Tottenham Court Road, London. Also a son who died April 1823 aged one year. She left surviving one son and one daughter". (Note: St. James burial ground is actually on Hampstead Road. Tottenham Court Road is its continuation beyond a dividing road. The Lydd wall mural is in the northern aisle of All Saints.) Christopher Wilson died at his residence in the Parish of St. Mildred's at Wincheap, a suburb of Canterbury, Kent, aged 60 years on 18 Jan 1836 and was survived by his second wife, Elizabeth.
