Marshall D. Boggs
Marshall D. Boggs, 76, 713 Dayton Ave., Washington Court House, di ed at 3:28 p.m. Sunday in Fayette County Memorial Hospital, Washington Cou rt House, after a brief illness. Born Oct. 3, 1908 in Gallipolis, he was the son of the late Thomas and M ae Cottrill Boggs. He received a bachelor's degree in education from the Rio Grande Colle ge and a master's degree in education from Ohio State University. He taug ht in one-room county schools for six years and in the junior high at Gall ipolis for three years before he became an elementary school principal. He was superintendent of Gallipolis City Schools in 1955-61, and then be came superintendent of Washington City Schools in Washington Court House u ntil his retirement in 1972, when he became a probate court probation offi cer and farmed in Fayette and Gallia Counties. He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church at Washingt on Court House, chairman of the board of trustees of Southern State Univer sity, a member of Phi Delta Kappa fraternity, a member of the Washington R otary Club, past president of the Gallipolis Rotary Club, chairman of t he Fayette County Cancer Society in 1981-82, a member of F&AM Morning Da wn Lodge 7, Gallipolis, Scottish Rite Valley, Columbus, and Aladdin Temp le Shrine, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Paul H. Hughey Amer ican Legion Post 25. He married Evelyn Smith, who survives, on Dec. 25, 1932. Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Philbert and Jean Bog gs of Gahanna, and Dick and Debbie Boggs of Washington Court House; four s isters, Mrs. Freda Barcus and Mrs. Erma Green, both of Gallipolis, Margar et Utt of Anderson, Ind. and Mrs. Owen (Anna) Fink of Middleport; two brot hers, James Boggs of Hawthorn, Fla. and Charles Boggs of Proctorville; a nd four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Glen Smith Boggs, in 1957. Friends may call at Kirkpatrick Funeral Home, Washington Court House, fr om 3-9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 3-6 p.m. A memorial ser vice will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the first Presbyterian Church, W ashington Court House with the Rev. Darrell Homes officiating. Friends may call at the First Presbyterian Church, Gallipolis, from 10 a .m. until 3 p.m. where services will be held at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Charl es Lusher officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Cemetery.
