| Shared Note: - (Research):This doesn't quite stack up. In 1860 our William Reid Malone, born 1817, should have been 43 not 53. His mother Elizabeth had been born in 1798 so it's not feasible that our William could have been born in 1807. Also he was a family man with two wives and ten children, so why is he not with his family and why is he not very visible over several censuses (censii? (go away!))? In the 1860 census of Hartford City, Mason Co., Virginia, we find a William Malone of the right age living in the "boarding house" called Virginia House, owned by W.W. and Amanda.
In fact we find two William Malones living there. One William is 53 years old, born in Virginia, and a brick and stone mason who owns personal assets of $100. The other William is 20 years old, also born in Virginia, and a plasterer with personal assets worth $100.00.
I suspect that these William Malones were related to Martha Jane Malone Jarrott of nearby Mason City. The older William was probably a brother, and the younger a nephew.
Otey C. Alexander and Mary Ann Malone Alexander's daughter Sarah married a William Malone. In the 1870 census taken in Greenup Co., Kentucky, we find young William 30 years and born in "East Virginia," and Sarah 25 years and born in "West Virginia" and their two little ones living next door to Otey and Mary Ann Alexander.
