Hide Details Shared Note: - (Research):In the 1850 census of Good Hope, Hocking Co., Ohio there was a Joseph Sheets, aged 66 [born about 1784], a farmer, who was born in Pennsylvania.

His wife was Mary aged 58 years. Their children, all born in Ohio,, were Barbara ‎("Barbary")‎ 17, Thomas 15 and Sarah 13.

This sounds as if it could be George Ludwig's son Joseph Sheets. It would mean that Joseph was George L.'s first son and that he was born before the family moved from Pennsylvania to Virginia.

On the other hand, there was another Joseph Sheets who was living in Edgar Co., Illinois, who could also be "the one." This Joseph was born in Rockingham, Virginia, and was 51 years old, which put his year of birth at about 1799.

His wife Ellen was born in Knox Co., Ohio. Their children were Permelia 16, Phebe 14, John 12, Jerutha eight and Charlotte six years old. The first four children were born in Knox Co., Virginia, and the two youngest in Edgar Co., Illinois. That means that they had been in Edgar Co., Illinois, for at least eight years.

There were many men named Joseph Sheets in the early census reports. Without a place of birth or a wife's name, it is very hard to find our Joseph.
