Biographical Notes

Hide Details Note: In 1900 George, 28, had been married for seven years. He was working as a telegraph operator, probably in Hartford West Virginia. He and Alice, 26 yrs, had two daughters, Rachel Alexander Brown and Martha Louise. George's father Mathew was still alive in 1900. I think that George would have farmed Mathew's land.

By 1920 George was a postal clerk with the railway. He and Alice were renting a home in Columbus. Rachel, 25, was a "musician" who worked in a music store. Martha Louise, 23, was a teacher in the public school system. By now the family was complete with Nellie, 17, Dorothy, 14, John W. eight, and William, three years and eleven months.

In 1930 George, 59, a mail clerk on the steam railroad, and Alice 56, had been married for 19 years. They owned their home, which was worth $7,500. Only the two boys, John, 18, and Bill, 13, were still at home.

Biographical Notes

Hide Details Note: According to his daughter Martha Louise, George was tall with light hair and blue eyes. He resembled Eddie but with curly hair.

George's father, Mathew, was in Maysville, Kentucky for a while. George was 14 yrs old when they returned to Hartford. Perhaps it was then that Major asked Mathew to look after his farm.
