There were several children called Moses Morgan born in Jackson County in the 1840-1850 period. For example on the same page of the 1850 Census in Jefferson Tp., Jackson Co., Ohio there is a 10 year old Moses born to Daniel and Catherine Morgan and an 8 year old Moses (twin to William) born to Daniel E. and Eleanor Morgan. All parents born in Wales. Given the age and the naming of subsequent children the former is probably our lad. Once Moses married the records became more comprehensive and he is easier to pin down.
1880: Moses, 39, a "coal operator," and Martha G, 29, "keeping house." They have two children, Daniel F., 2, and James, 4 mos. They lived next door to a surgeon and physician, James B. Johnson and his wife Catherine, which was probably of some consolation to Mattie. Both of Moses' parents were born in Wales.
1900: Moses is still listed as a "coal operator." They now have a daughter, Sarah, who is 12 and "at school." Both Daniel and James are students. Mattie had had five children of whom three are living. Katie and Lemuel have died. Katie had a horrific death by scalding.
1920: Mattie has died, and Moses is living with his son Jim Morgan, 39, and Jim's wife, Elizabeth Kithcart, 41 in Jackson, Ohio.
