Kathleen's early education was at a Catholic school at Prospect, a matter of convenience for Hetty who remained a staunch Protestant at a time of much greater division between denominations than now. This was followed by the local public school and a business college. Kathleen was a stenographer at the time of her marriage.
From the Adelaide "Advertiser" of December 14,1940:
JARVIS-SCHULTE - Topknot of silver roses - The magnolia tulle veil to be worn by Miss Kathleen Schulte at her wedding tonight has been lent by Mrs. Ken Wallis, and the bride will carry the handkerchief carried by her mother on her wedding day. The lace yoke of her gown is from her mother's wedding dress.
This was followed by the details of parents' names, church, etc. and that her father was to give her away. Alan, an accountant, worked at the British Tube Mills. They lived at 1 Haig Street, Broadview.
