Note: George's wife Jeannie had come to Australia with her Rankine Uncles, Dr. John and William. The latter with Colonel James Dawson founded Strathalbyn in 1841. There was a large party of Rankines and kinsfolk aboard the "Fairfield", which reached S.A. on 30 Apr 1839. Samuel Brown who was over-seer for Dr. John Rankine at "Blackwood Park" near Strathalbyn married Jeannie Paterson on 1 Jun 1844, the Rev. Robert Haining officiating. He already had a son Alexander Bertram Brown born 1841 from an earlier marriage. Samuel was also establishing "Wattlebank" and died there aged 39 on 17 Jun 1851. Jeannie inherited. She was aged 31 years. A year later she married George Knight, five years her junior. Alexander went to relatives at Wallaroo, S.A.
By his marriage George became owner of "Wattlebank" which he farmed until 1871 when he took up land at Cooke's, now Cooke Plains.
He was said to be of a lively disposition and fond of practical jokes. He was still breaking in horses at 78 and added to his long list of broken bones by breaking ribs in 1902. He recovered only to fall victim of influenza in the following August and died peacefully in his bed. His obituary was in the "Southern Argus" and the Adelaide "Observer" of 16 Sep 1902. He had died at "Perkindoo".
