He already had a son Alexander Bertram Brown born 1841 from an earlier marriage. Samuel was also establishing "Wattlebank" and died there aged 39 on 17 Jun 1851. Jeannie inherited. She was aged 31 years. A year later she married George Knight, five years her junior. Alexander went to relatives at Wallaroo, S.A.
