Hide Details Note: FIRST DEATH IN FAMILY.
Mrs. Alexander Succumbs, Leaving Husband and Eleven Children
Mrs. Alexander, wife of Capt. Thomas A. Alexander of Letart, died Monday at the ripe old age of 90 years, leaving a husband of 92 years of age and eleven children, ranging in age from 65 to 45 years, to mourn her death, the first that ever occurred in the family.
Capt. Alexander and his estimable wife were among the pioneers of Letart township. There they spent their long and useful lives, reared their large family and lived to see the babe of eleven children old enough to be a grandparent, and not until Monday did the angel of death ever darken their door. When he did come he claimed for his own one who was ripe in years, ready for the grim reaper and waiting for the summons that must soon come. All the joy that life could give had been hers and she met death without a murmur, satisfied with the fullness of her long life spent in the service of the Master.
If we remember all right this fine old lady and her aged companion had been married almost seventy years, thus establishing a record probably never before equalled in Meigs county. The eleven children, the youngest of whom had grown to womanhood a quarter of a century ago, were all she ever bore, there never having been a death in the family in all the seventy years, another record never before equalled in Meigs county. The children are: Capt. William B. Alexander, St. Louis, Mo.,; S.W., Henry M. and A.B. of Letart, O.; John, Letart, W.Va; Mrs. Beckler, Mrs. John Price, Mrs. Jos. Ball, Mrs. John DeGolly, and Mrs. Jeff Bell, Letart; Mrs. Regina Edwards, Rochester, Pa.
The funeral occurred Wednesday and interment in the Letart cemetery.
