Obituary 1907 ‎(Age 92)‎

Hide Details Note: Thomas Alexander was born in Letart township, Meigs county, Nov. 3, 1814. He was married Sept. 15, 1836 to Caroline Burns. To this union were born eleven children, six girls and five boys, all of whom are still living, except Mrs. Emma Ball, who died Apr. 15, 1907. This large family of children together with the parents, lived near together, W.B. Alexander, of Louisiana, being the furthest away, until the eldest child, Mrs. G. A. Beckler, had reached the age of 66 years, and the youngest, Mrs. Fanny DeGolley reached the age of 44 years, without a death in the family, until a little over one year ago, Jan. 1906, the mother was called from this earth, when the family circle was broken. Since then the father and a daughter have gone to join her in a better land.
Grandfather Alexander, as he was familiarly known, was born only a short distance from where he died, and at his marriage began housekeeping in the house where he spent the remainder of his life, having lived in the same house for more than seventy years. He was an active member in church work until hindered by the infirmities of old age. Their seventy years of married life was one of happiness. During the last few years of their lives they were cared of by Mrs. DeGolley, assisted by the other children. An incident worth mentioning here, is, that the last sad obsequies of both Grandfather and Grandmother Alexander, were attended by Mrs. Hannah Jones, who is still very active at the age of eighty-two years; she was also present at their infair, seventy years ago.
Grandfather Alexander died Oct. 1, 1907, aged 92 years. 10 months and 28 days. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Cherrington ‎(all the children being present)‎ at the old home. where many friends and relatives assembled to say their last tributes of respect...‎[articled damaged]‎.
