Note: I have often wondered about the name Hulda. I have decided that it is based on a pronunciation of Hilda. Perhaps some German dialect sounded more like Hulda than Hilda. Hilda is a German name.
Mrs. Hulda Sheets Cofer, aged 77, died Fri. afternoon at her home on lower Third Avenue. She had been in failing health for some time as the result of successive strokes & had been bedfast the past nineteen weeks.
Mrs. Cofer was the widow of J.S. Cofer & had lived all her life in Gallia County. Most of it was spent in the lower end of the county, she having come here to reside in 1920.
Three daughters & two sons survive; Mrs. Fred E. Brammer (Olive) & Mrs. Raymond Sheets (Dena) of Huntington; Mrs. O. E. Rodgers (Allie ) of Bainbridge; Milford at Waverly & Kenley at home. She is also survived by three brothers, James, Uri & Herbert Sheets, all of this county & three sisters, Mrs. Electa Garlic of Platform, Mrs. Bertha McComas of Huntington & Mrs. R.W. Burnette of Mercerville. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her and was ever devoted to her family.
Funeral services will be held Sun. at 2 p.m. at the Bapt. Church with Rev. George Sagen officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Cem. by A.E. Tope.
