Biographical Notes |
Note: Alva R. Fellure was born in April 1879 to Joshua and Arizona (Caldwell) Fellure, who farmed in Guyan township. Sadly, Arizona died in February 1880 when her firstborn was only ten months old. Alva was sent to his grandmother, Minerva Caldwell, aged 77. She and his Aunt Catharine Caldwell cared for this baby. Aunt Catharine was 22 years old; and Uncle Averill was 18. Averill worked on the farm. What happened during Alva's early childhood and adolescence, we don't know yet; however at the time of the federal census in June 1900, Alva was 21 years old and living with his cousin George Sheets, 29 years, and his family. George's family included Celesta, his wife; Clarence F. eight; Minnie six; and Julia three years old.
A month later in July 1900, Alva married Vilona Sheets, daughter of Big Brice Sheets and Sarah Sanders. She known as Lona.
By 1910 we learn from the census that Alva was 32 years old and Lona 29. They were farming on George's Creek Road in Guyan township. Their children were Irvin eight, Edith six, Thelma H. three and Vergie. Lona's mother, Sarah Sheets, was living with them. She was 72 years old and a widow.
Alva's brother "Zachria" aged 23 was also in their home.
Bu 1920, Alva was 41 years and Lona was 38. They had six children at home: Irvin L. 18 (farm laborer), Edith M. 16, Thelma 13, Virgie ten, Jewel P. seven, Lillie three years and seven months, and toddler Garrett who was two years and four months old.
Alva died at the young age of 55.
