Biographical Notes
Note: "Grandma Walker", according to her granddaughter Jean Shepherd Sargent, "was a lovely person". She always longed to go back to England - to go home. When Grandpa Walker saw that her health was failing, he took her. She had a stroke either when she was in England or on the ship. She died at sea. Aunt Lillie, still single, went with them.
"Grandma Walker had only one leg; the other one was lost before she married. She had a tubercular hip, so they removed her leg. She could run with a crutch. If they were running for a tram, Jean had to run as fast as she could to keep up with her grandma. If children were naughty, she would hit them with her crutch."
