Note: Martha Blakemore had a sister Mary. Martha was the "second daughter." The Blakemores were Baptists who lived in Birmingham. Mr. Blakemore had died by 1817 when Martha married W.H. Pearce, but Mrs. Blakemore was alive. One of her letters to Martha and William is quoted in William Yates's "Memoirs of Rev. W.H. Pearce"
Once in Calcutta, Martha became involved with education for girls. First called "Female Juvenile Society," but changed to "Female School Society," the schools taught the children of Indians (Hindus), orphaned Indian girls and children of native Christian parents. Mrs. Wilson directed the Orphan Asylum.
