Biographical Notes |
Note: Andrew was born in 1863 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire to Jon Carey and Charlotte Reynolds Carey. He was the fourth child and third son of seven children. Two of his siblings died very young in 1867 and 1869. Then his mother died in 1870 when he was about seven years old. About six months later his father remarried Lucy Yeo, and they had five more children.
In 1881 at the time of the English census young Andrew, 17 years old, was a visitor in Deptford, London, at the home of Joseph and Margaret Aldrich. His occupation was Draper's Apprentice.
It is interesting to note some of the occupations of other members of the Aldrich household: Hat Trimmer and Boot Maker's Assistant. Next door to the Aldriches was John Dixon, a Coal Merchant Employing 11 men and 5 boys.
At some stage Andrew went to New Zealand, but I don't know when.
