Note: From Hardesty's History of Gallia County 1882:
William and Elizabeth Henry Sheets came to this county in 1806. The father of Mr. Sheets came to this county when there were no roads, schools, churches or mills. Everything was done by hand. Game was very plentiful, and he killed a few bear in this township [Guyan]. He had to endure many hardships.
In the 1860 federal census, William 64 years and Elizabeth 65 were living on their own. They owned property worth $2,000. It was stated that both of them had been born in North Carolina.

Only one child was at home with them and that was Minerva, aged 28 years. On the very next property three of their sons were farming: George 20, William J. 18 and Brice H. 16 years.
