Note: Peter and Elisabeth Wessan lived along the Rhine River in Germany in the town of Ludwigshafen. Napoleon had lost the war with Russia and he and his troops were on their way back to France. Many of the troops were sick, injured, and carrying the disease known as Bubonic Plague or Black Death. The Germans were infected with the plague and many died from it. Both Peter and Elisabeth Wessar caught the plague from Napoleon's soldiers and died in 1813. It is believed that Peter Mess also died of Bubonic Plague, also in 1813.
