In 1880 Tartus was working on a nearby property, the farm of Abraham and Rachel Houck.

Tartus and Mary Elizabeth Carrell were married in the wintry new year of 1882 in Gallia County.

Eighteen years later when the 1900 census was taken they were farming in Mason Township of Lawrence County with their family of eight children--including twins--who ranged in age from eighteen years to one month. One child, Reese, had died in 1894 at the age of two.

Their farm appeared to be close to those of Descomb Rose and Charles Massie.

Sadly, Mary died of consumption during the late winter of 1902. Tartus did not remarry for another eight years.

In the spring of 1910 Tartus married Marinda Lewis Gilmore. It was a second marriage for both. They farmed in Walnut Township at the time of their marriage; but before 1920 the family moved to Bloom Township in Wood County, Ohio, which is in northern Ohio near Bowling Green.

Their baby girl Parney Ebron was born in 1910 but died when she was thirteen years old. Another baby, a boy named Jesse Ward, died when two weeks old in 1912.

In the 1930 census which was taken shortly before Tartus died in July 1930, the only two adult children at home were Florence aged 43 and Delbert 27. Tartus was recorded as 75 years old, but I think that he was only 73..

There is confusion about the birth dates and ages of several of Tartus and Mary's children, namely Delbert, Irwin and Della. Mary had twins, but were they Delbert and Irwin or Delbert and Della? I suspect that they were Delbert and Della.

In the Claimants for Childrens Pension No. 336394, Tartus M. Kerr's address is certified to be Waterloo, Lawrence county Ohio. What pension was he claiming?
