Note: Nicholas married his first wife Anna Gunn in Pennsylvania about 1816, and they had nine children. Anna died having the ninth one, Lewis, in 1837.
Nicholas must have left Pennsylvania for Ohio about the time that Anna died in childbirth.
When he got to Monroe Co., Ohio, he met young Sarah Antill, who became his second wife. At that time Nicholas was 62 years old, and Sarah was 23. There is some confusion about whether they were married in Monroe Co., Ohio (where most of their children were born), or Gallia Co., Ohio (where they eventually settled).
Nicholas and Sarah then had nine children from 1842 to 1857. Nicholas fathered his last child when he was about 80 years old.
One of Nicholas' sons, Britton, from his first marriage to Anna Gunn, came to Ohio with his father. He lived in Lawrence Co., and is buried at the Fellure Cemetery in Guyan township, Gallia county, Ohio.
Britton served in the Civil War in Company D, 125 Ohio Infantry. He was born 23 April 1823 and died 29 April 1900.
Note: Nicholas is buried next to his wife Sarah in the Fellure Cemetery in Guyan township. It gives his age on the tombstone: 88y 11m 13 days. He lived a long life.
