Stephen was a miller, and he and Mary were both aged about 40. The ages were rounded off for this census.

Their children were Edmund, John and Mary 15 years; Arabella 14; Thomas 12; Joshua nine; George seven; Charlotte six and Lucy two years.

Ten years later Stephen 52 and Mary 50 still lived in Wellington where Stephen was a miller and corn dealer. Their children were Arabella 24, George 17, Charlotte 16 and Lucy 14. Elizabeth Pedlingham was their domestic servant. Where was Thomas? The three eldest children had left home or died. They lived next to John Baston ‎[Beeston]‎ who was a "Surgeon and L.S.A. Practioner." What is L.S.A.?

On 24 March 1859 Charlotte married the Rev. Jon Carey at the St James Street Chapel in Wolverhampton, West Midlands. Wolverhampton is northwest of Birmingham.

In 1861 Jon 33 years was a Baptist minister who lived in Wolverhampton, Staffordshsire at 26 Gate Street with his wife Charlotte, who was 26 years, and their two little children. Anna Pearce Carey, named for Jon's mother, was one year old; and Will was two months old. Scottish Elizabeth Groom, 17 years, was their servant.

In 1867 Charlotte's baby Lottie, who was named for her, died in infancy. Charlotte was in Barnstaple for Lottie's birth and death. The next year she had Jonathan Reynolds and a year later baby George was born and died.

In March 1870 Charlotte died in Barnstaple, Devon, after giving birth to seven children in eleven years.
