Note: In the 1841 English census taken in Lamerton, Devon, William 40 years was farming with the help of two men. His wife, Ann 30 years,was very busy with six children under the age of 12: Roger 12, Richard ten, Mary and Jemima (twins) eight, Harriet six, and Ann two. Ten years later but still in Lamerton, Roger was 23 years old and living at home with his parents William and Anna. Willliam was a farmer with 55 acres of land. The family lived at 2 Headwell. The other members of the large Percy family were Richard 21, Harriet 16, Anne 12, Thomas ten, William seven, Jesse (a girl) five, and Rhoda three.
The Percys sailed to South Australia on the "Thomas Arbuthnot", arriving in 1855. William, who was in his fifties at that time, worked as a labourer. The family settled in Gawler, South Australia. Their religion was Church of England.
