Biographical Notes
Note: In late November of 1850 the census reporter found John Martt aged 35 years, a farmer in Harrison township, who owned real estate valued at $500. John's wife Elizabeth, 30 years, had two young sons and a daughter to care for: Lewis five, James three and Jane one year.
In the 1880 federal census of Gallia County, Ohio, John Martt 60 yrs, was farming in Guyan township. His wife Elizabeth A. 61 yrs was keeping house. The children who were living at home were Lydia 29, Rebecca 27, Charles A. 18 and George 16.
Both John and Elizabeth had died by 1900. Their daughters Liddy J. and Rebecca were farming with the assistance of Elmer J. Martin, a 15-year-old farm laborer who was boarding with them.
