Note: According to Claudie Sheets, Leonard Sheets was the eldest of the first generation of which we know, and went to Van Wert County, Ohio, near Indiana.
Biographical Notes
Note: 1820: Leonard and his wife Polly were living in Ohio township along with his brothers, William, George and John.
Leonard Males: 2 (0-10), 1 (10-16), 1 (26-45) Females: 3 (0-10), 2 (10-16), 1 (26-45) Ten in his family: a wife & 8 children
1830: Leonard and family were still in Gallia Co., this time in Guyan township. Besides Leonard and Polly the family consisted of two boys and four girls. Brothers William, George and John Sheets were also farming in Guyan township.
1840: Leonard and Polly were living in Greene Co., Indiana. Leonard was the only male in the household, but there were four daughters.
1850: The Leonard Sheets family had settled into Greene Co., Indiana. Leonard 68 years and Mary 69 had only one child at home, Sally 30 years. All were born in Virginia. Living close to them were William Sheets and his wife Martha, and John Sheets and his wife Mary J. Both of these young men had married within the year. They could well have been sons of Leonard and Polly. Katharine Mowry, Leonard's sister, is living with John and Mary J. Sheets.
