Turner brought his family to Ohio, settling in Lawrence County, Mason township by the 1840s. Samuel married Mahala J. Fowler, daughter of Harrison Fowler and Arominta Martt of Guyan township, Gallia County, Ohio. By 1870 they had two boys: Henry A. two years and Joseph ‎[Jasper]‎ M. four months. By 1880 they had Henry 12, Jasper 10, Roxana eight, Laura J. six and Harrison four years. Samuel's father had been born in Maryland and his mother in Pennsylvania, which made Turner and Jane Clary, who lived nearby, the perfect match. Samuel died at the end of 1899, aged 57 years, leaving Mahala 50 years with four children at home: Henry A. 32 yrs, Roxana, 28 yrs, Laura J. 26 yrs and Harrison 24 yrs. They were old enough to look after her!
