By 1860 Lewis 41 had property worth $1,000 and personal assets worth $300. Margaret was now 38 years old and had eight children at home: Emily J. 18, Green 15, William T. 14, Elizabeth 12, John H. nine, James eight, Margaret E. five and Augustine two years old. Their post office was located at Greasy Ridge.

In 1870 the post office was simply in Aid. Lewis 52 years had real estate worth $700.00 and personal assets of $494.00. Margaret was 48 years old and could not read or write. She had six children at home: John H. 19, a farm laborer; James E. 17, Margaret E. 15, Augustine 12, Sarah C. nine and "Epelonia" six. All of the children but John were attending school.

Between 1870 and 1880 Lewis' wife Margaret died, and Lewis remarried Sarah who was about twenty-five years younger than he was. They had four children: Redmond L. six, Jesse four, Oliver two, and Susan ten months ‎(born August 1879)‎. Epelonia, aged 15, was at home also and probably was a big help to Sarah with the children. The family had one male servant, who likely helped Lewis with the farm work.

Lewis lived almost to the turn of the century; however, he died on May 6, 1894. He was buried at the Lawrence Chapel Cemetery, which is at the junction of county roads 63 and 215. It would appear that he is not buried next to either Margaret or Sarah.
