Note: In 1944 and 1945 E.M.S. was a frequent guest at Gladys' house with its superb views of the harbour, both to the Heads and back to the bridge and the city. Allen had died only weeks before she made contact with the family. Gladys was a kind hostess to her, and had her stay many weekends when on leave from her W.A.A.A.F. station at Penrith. After the war Gladys corresponded up to her death in 1968. She had sold the Vaucluse house when her sons married and moved to a cottage on the North Shore at 123 Chelmsford Avenue, Willoughby and took a position with David Jones Departmental Store, Sydney for a number of years. In 1959 she sold the cottage and moved to a flat at 223 Penshurst Street in the same suburb. She was 71 when she died of cancer in 1968.
