Note: There is no record of where Samuel worked or resided in 1884 and he does not appear in any Directory until 1886, by which time he was a Police Constable residing at Surflen Street, Adelaide (a Robert Shillabeer was at the same address who cannot be identified). Samuel remained with the Police Force until 1892. An account of his service cannot be given as this year (1985) the Force placed a ban on the previous easy access to such records at the Adelaide Archives. Samuel resided at Carrington Street, Adelaide 1888, McLaren Street 1890 and also possibly Wright Street that year of Effie's birth. By 1893 he had resigned from the Police Force and was running a fruiterers business at Unley Road, Unley and in 1894 the same at Sturt Street, City. The next year he was of Louisa Street, Goodwood Park, his occupation being "greengrocer" and continued so until 1900. He was absent from directories for the next seven years then was shown as being at Victoria Street, Parkside. From 1909 he was "Driver" of Owen Street, Goodwood Park, progressing from no.4 to no.6 by 1914. He had joined "Wills" of Adelaide, said Blaine, but EMS is unsure if this was W.D, & H.O., the tobacco firm, or G.&.R. Warehouse. In 1925 the address was 20 Oxford Street, Hyde Park, but Samuel and his wife returned to 6 Owen Street where he died aged 75 years on 29 Jul 1935.
His wife spent the closing years of her life at "'Wendoorie", a nursing home at Wayville where she died in her 94th. year on 10 Jul 1951. They were interred at West Terrace Cemetery.
