Note: Mary was aged 4 when she sailed for South Australia with her mother and brothers George and Archibald and sisters Elizabeth and Georgina in 1856. She was a lady of independent outlook and set up as a shopkeeper which did not please some of her relatives. Directories show her as dressmaker at Caltowie, then shopkeeper, and later at Kadina. Her last days were spent at a nursing home at The Strand, Colonel Light Gardens, near Adelaide. She had not married. Her newspaper death notice said "On 6 Aug 1941 at a private hospital, late of Caltowie and Colonel Light Gardens loved sister of Mrs. F.L. Morter and Charles Edward Kerr. Aged 90 years. She was buried at the Centennial Park Cemetery.
