Note: In 1850 Daniel and Isabella were living with William & Susan Alexander, Isabella's parents.
By 1860 Daniel was a prosperous farmer with real estate valued at 8,000 and personal estate valued at 600. He was only 30 years old and Phebe 22. They had only two children at then, Charles by his first marriage and Fanny by Phoebe.
By 1870 Daniel and Phebe had five children ranging in age from 19 down to 5: three boys and two girls. One of the boys was Charles from Daniel's first marriage.
By 1880 Daniel suffered from lumbago, but still managed to run a farm and support a family of six plus two helpers. David James was a servant/laborer on the farm, and Susan Dougherty, 55, helped by "keeping house." There was a new child: Elijah C. who was 8. Interestingly, ten years earlier, Susan Dougherty 40 yrs helping in the household of Henry and Elizabeth Alexander.
