Note: William and Sarah emigrated to South Australia with an infant daughter Elizabeth Annie (who died when she was 5) - by the "Calphurnia", Capt. James Nicholson which left England 10 Dec 1848 and arrived at Port Adelaide on 1 Apr 1849. William's trade shown on the ships passenger list, was "Carpenter". The Biographical Index gives their places of residence in Adelaide as Bowden and Norwood,
The 1872 Directory shows William as carpenter of Bowden but he seems to have abandoned carpentry for hotel keeping. He is shown in Directories as having the "Aldgate Pump" Hotel at Stirling which had further name changes in later years. At the time of his death (1882) they were at the "Royal Hotel", Kent Town.
Sarah continued there, and from 1887 to 1891 was running the "Dalrymple" at Stansbury. Other hotels she had, have not yet been traced, but by 1900 she was at "The Vine Inn", Glen Osmond and her son-in-law R.E.E. Rogers was occasionally to be seen at weekends there in the bar pulling pints for her customers.
