Shep's Place Family Tree

In the 1870 census, William 37, a coal miner; Elizabeth 29, "keeping house;" have three children: George R. six, James four and margaret one. The children were all born in West Virginia.

From the 1900 census of Mason Co., we find William 67 and Elizabeth 59 with three children at home: Tobias 24, a coal miner like his father; Elizabeth 23 and single; and William 17, another coal miner. Interestingly, although William had arrived in the US in 1857 and had lived there for 42 years, he had not become naturalized. Nor had Elizabeth who came in 1859 and had lived there for 40 years.
