Note: In 1900 Sophie and Thayer were in the middle years of their lives with four children at home aged from eight to sixteen. They had been married for 17 years and owned thir own home. Sophia had had four children, and they were all four living.
Thayer's occupation was "harness maker," which was soon to become obsolete as motorcars became more common.
In the 1930 census we learn that Thayer had died, leaving Sophia, 68 years, a widow. She owned her home which was worth $10,000. Her daughter Elsie, aged 42 and single, lived with her. Both of Sophie's parents were born in Germany. She lived in Martins Ferry, Ohio.
