Note: In 1841 William was living with his parents and his siblilngs: George, John, Samuel and Elizabeth. His grandparents John and Ann Brooks lived in the same community.
In 1851 William was living with his parents at his widowed grandfather's home at 4 Carr St., Clifton. Samuel and Elizabeth were also at home.
Married by 1861 and living at Ilkeston, Derbyshire, William and his wife Elizabeth were both in the shoe business, William as a shoemaker and Elizabeth as a shoe binder. They had two young children at home: George two years and William one year.
Ten years later in 1871 it appears that William 40, has three children at home: George 12, Thomas nine and Alice seven.
Twenty years later in 1891 William is designated as a widower and a shoemaker living at 21 Granby Street, Ilkeston. His son Alfred 15 yrs is with him.
By 1901 William is a retired shoemaker of 73 years. He is designated a "boarder" in the home of his daughter Alice (and Severn) Beer's family. Why not "father"?
