HOME CHRONICLES--Happenings of Interest To the People of Gallia. Col. Bird Ill. Col. C. W. Bird has been confined to his home quite a little while and is confined to his bed. Attorneys Dunn and Switzer called on him this afternoon and found him quite feeble and they hardly knew what his complicated trouble is.

Note: C.W. Bird was born in Highland County, Virginia in 1840; admitted to the bar in Mason Co., W.Va. 1867; came to Gallipolis in 1870; was mayor of Gallipolis from 1873 to 1877; worked in the pension office in Washington DC from 1881 to 1883.

Note: According to the diary of Hattie Brown Coble in 1966, Charles Bird moved to Gallipolis from Virginia because he disagreed with slavery. Charles was a lawyer although he did not attend law school. He was self-taught. Having studied law, he passed his exam on a riverboat. The captain was authorized to examine him.
