Note: Manley B. Brown was married to Rebecca Knight, who was the youngest daughter of George Knight who married Elizabeth Kirk. She traced her ancestry back to Sir George Knight of Scotland. When her father died in 1868, his widow and unmarried children moved to Hartford, where they llive with Dr. james R. Meeks and family, Mrs. Knight's daughter. Rebecca was a sister of Dr. A. L. Knight of West Columbia, and the flats.
Manly and his family lived in the Major Brown house until it burned, when they bought the Will Juhling house, located across from the present school.
Note: 1870: Manly was living at home on the family farm with his father Major Brown 57, sister Martha 36 and brother Martin 19. Manly's occupation was "works on farm;" and Martin's was "clerk on steamboat."
1910: Manly and Rebecca are both 66 years old. Their younger daughter Hattie died about four years previously. Their other daughter Nettie, son-in-law Dr. Charles Petty, and granddaughter Louise are living with them. Louise is 9 years old.
