December 1906 "On Monday, a Mr Geo. Chapman was loading hay in Mr Jaensch's paddock when the horses attached to the trolley were startled. Mr Chapman made a spring for the reins on the sea, which turned turtle and landed him between the horses. He was badly cut about the head and body, and Dr Chapple had to put several stitches in his head. It will be some days before he will be able to get about again." Mt Barker Courier, 12 December 1906, part of article including Mr R Chapman, bacon curer.
July 1909 Nairne 21 July "As Mr George Chapman was stepping down from the verandah at the post-office he fell and broke his leg at the thigh. Mrs Chapman (Emily King Chapman), who was with him, quickly summoned assistance, and Dr Smeaton of Mount Barker was called and set the broke limb. On Saturday a lady fell from the same verandah, which is about 18 in. high, but fortunately she was not hurt. A lighted lamp would be a great convenience to those who find it necessary to go to the post-office at night and might prevent further accidents." Mt Barker Courier, 23 July 1909.

George was admitted to Ru Rua Hospital, Adelaide, for an operation and found to have an inoperable cancer of the stomach and liver.
In his obituary in the Mt Barker Courier on 20 September 1912, it mentions that George was a member of the Nairne District Council and headed the large bacon curing business bearing his name.
