Note: In 1881 John 38 was a postmaster and blacksmith. His wife Elizabeth 37 had five young children: John four, Annie three, George two and Elizabeth four months. John's 12-yr-old niece, Amy S. Stead was a "nursemaid." Elizabeth certainly needed some help! Twenty years later in 1901, John 58 is a sub-postmaster and blacksmith. Elizabeth 57, has five children at home: Mary E. 26, post office assistant; robert S. 24, clerk; George H. 21, blacksmith; Katie H. 18 teacher; and Gertrude W. 14.
