Note: John L. Niday served with Union forces in the Civil War: He was a seargent in Company B. in the 91st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was 27 years old when he was discharged. He served from July 21, 1862 to June 24, 1865. I think that he was very lucky to have survived because he was in the war for a long time.
John L. Niday lived near Mercerville, but later went to Kansas (near Wichita) where he farmed. From there he went to Oklahoma and then to Florida. He returned to Gallia County where he died. He had six children.
In 1880 John L. 46 yrs was farming in Harrison township, Gallia county, Ohio. At that time wife Rebecca H. 42 yrs had five children at home: Lucy E. ten, Edward J. eight, William P. five, David T. two and John, one month.
