Note: Mr. and Mrs. Burnett's youngest son, Gory, who has been in the navy for several years, happened to be at home on his annual furlough over Thanksgiving and to the old folks this lent more joy to the occasion [of the wedding anniversary]. All around, it was an event of more than ordinary enjoyment and their many friends express the hope that their future anniversaries will be no less pleasant than this one.
Gorey Burnette Gorey M. Burnette, 71, a resident of 499 South Waverly St., Columbus, died Saturday in Grant Hospital.
A retired defense construction Supply Center employee of Columbus, he served with the U.S. Navy 23 years as a chief petty officer. He was a member of the East Columbus Christian Church, a charter member of the Fleet Reserve Lodge No. 199.
Mr. Burnette was born in Gallia County on Nov. 26, 1905, son of the late Richard W. and America Sheets Burnette.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Lee Burnette; one daughter, Angeline Burnette, Leupp; one sister, Mrs. Mary Thornton; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Evans Funeral Home in Columbus with Dr. Brother Joe Belcastro officiating.
