Note: Mamie Niday Robinson remembered that Aunt Welth and Aunt Mary for make-up used to put flour on their faces. Then they'd get a little piece of wallpaper that had some red in it to use for rouge.
They always covered themselves to protect themselves from the sun.
Note: Mary Ann Thornton, 78, a resident of Eureka Star Te. died at 3:05 p.m. Thurs. in Pleasant Valley Convalescent Center, Piketon [or Point Pleasant?]. She had been in failing health the past nine months.
She was born July 25, 1899 in Guyan Tp., daughter of the late R.W. & America Sheets Burnette. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Thornton in 1958. Two sons & two daughters survive, Dale, Mrs. Melba Sheets, Thomas, Mrs. Robert (Joan) Dayton, all of Gallipolis. Eight grand & one great-grandchild survive. Four brothers & six sisters preceded her in death. She was a member of Siloam Missionary Bapt. Ch. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Unroe officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Saturday.
