Note: In 1871 at the time of the census, Emily and two little sons Harry and Herbert were visitors in Luton at 3 Langley Street, the home of Jane and Arthur Barrett, who were 28 years old. Arthur was a wood turner. They had a daughter Maude who was ten months old. All of them were born in Luton.
Perhaps Jane was Emily's sister.
The family lived at 2 Torrens Street in Brixton in 1881. Emily was head of household because her husband was in Australia. On the form it said, "No professn--husband in Australia." She had six children at home, ranging in age from one to fourteen. They were Harry R. 14, clerk in oil business; Maude E. eight, scholar/imbecile; Isabel [not Mabel] A. six, scholar; Alfred four, scholar; and Florence N. one year. Amelia M. Pritchard aged 16 was a visitor and scholar. Perhaps she taught the children.
