Note: Emma, after the death of her mother in Amersham in 1865, stayed in England, never to return to Australia. She was cared for by her grandfather and aunt in Amersham.
Later the family, which included Aunt Emma's husband Jacob Davies, moved to Reading where they lived in a large house with a thatched roof on Eastern Avenue. Young Emma inherited this house from her aunt and uncle and lived out her life there.
During the course of War I, several of the Shepherd cousins, such as Wilf and Edmund, enjoyed Emma's hospitality at her home which was called "Cromwell House" at 17 Eastern Avenue, Reading. During her long life she corresponded with her Shepherd relatives in Australia.
Emma died in Reading when she was ninety years old.
