Note: At the time of the 1841 census of England, Lucy was a baby of one year in Arlington, Devon. Her parents were Henry and Ann Yeo. Henry had been born in the nearby village of Sherwill, while Ann had been born in East Down.
Lucy's mother had a new baby nearly every year. When Lucy was born, she had at least nine older siblings. Later, she would have a younger brother, Samuel. Her mother was not listed in the 1861 census; she was probably dead from exhaustion.
In the 1851 census we learn that Lucy's father Henry had a large farm in northern Devon. It was 1200 acres large, and Henry employed two labourers.
In the 1861 census Lucy was 20 years old and at home with her father Henry 67, and William 33, Henry Jr 28, Eliza 24 and two servants.
