Biographical Notes |
Note: Iny was an orderly, neat, clean (cleanliness is next to Godliness ) person. She kept house for her father J. Fred Ruttencutter for some time and did not marry until she was in her 30s. Her husband Will Reed had taken care of his mother for a number of years, also; so they were both a little older when they got married.
Uncle Will Reed had the first hardware store in St. Marys, West Virginia. His store was not a general store; he carried only hardware items.
William Reed was also a deputy clerk of the Pleasants C. Court. He served under John W. Porter, Clerk. Mr. Porter died in 1896 at the age of 38, and William E. Reed was appointed Clerk by the Court.
In April 1897 the first county board of health was organized. On it were Dr. Joseph B. Watson, George Kelsall and William Reed.
By June 1, 1900, Will had married Kate Inez Ruttencutter and they had a baby girl, Nellie Y. Reed, who was born in April of that year. They were living in St Marys, West Virginia.
