Note: Son of Otey C. Alexander and Mary Ann Malone, Lemuel was born in West Virginia in March 1866 or 1867; however by 1870, when he was three years old, the family was living in Greenup Co., Kentucky. 1880: The Alexanders were living in Globe School House Township of Greenup Co., Kentucky where Lemuel was thirteen years old. His mother had died in 1876 when he was only ten years old. Fortunately, he had older sisters, Annie 31, Julia 29, Nance 22 and Mary.
1900: Otey C. Alexander, Lemuel's father had died before the 1900 census, but Lemuel was living in Lucerne Township, Kings County, California with his sister Miriam, who was now 48 yrs and single. Another sister, Mary 30 yrs, was also in the household with her husband Frederick Brec[k]inbridge, 39 yrs. Frederick, who had been born in Louisiana, and Mary had been married for one year.
1910: Lemuel S. 43 and his adopted brother John R. Alexander 46 were fruit farmers. In their household were sisters Martha J. 69 and single; Mariam 52 and single; Mary Breckenridge 48 and widowed; plus two young orphan children, who were born in Colorado, Thelma and Stella J. Bishop, aged 9 and 7.
1920: John R. was no longer in partnership with Lemuel, now 52 yrs old. Lemuel's sisters Julia 68 yrs and Mary Breckinridge 59 were living with him and keeping house.
