Note: Mary was ten years old in 1870. She was one of the middle children in the family of Otey and Mary Alexander. Mary, named for her mother, was attending school. In 1880, still in Greenup Co., Kentucky, Mary 20 yrs was at home with most of her siblings. Her mother had died in 1876, and her father would die between 1880 and 1900.
By 1900 Mary was married to Frederick Breckinridge and living in California (Kings Co., Lucerne Twp.) with her brother Lemuel and sister Miriam.
By 1910 Mary 48 was widowed. She lived in Lemuel's household with adopted brother John R., sisters Martha J. and Miriam and two little orphans named Thelma and Stella J. Bishop, who had been born in Colorado.
