Mrs. Matilda Boggs, 89, died at the home of her son, Lewis Boggs, in this city Sunday morning after a brief illness. Widow of James A. Boggs, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dan Davis of Northup, and three sons, James, Thomas and Lewis Boggs.
Funeral services were held Tues day afternoon at Bethesda church by Rev. George Sagen, burial following there.
Note: My dad, Walter Rose, says that he remembers "Aunt Tillie". He said that she was a "very large" woman who had a marvelous sense of humor. He stated that she died during the 1937 flood. The funeral was held but the funeral home had to wait a few days to take her to the cemetery because the high water had the roads around Gallipolis closed. When they did take her to the cemetery, it required travel through back country roads to get around the flood waters that had SR 775 shut off below the cemetery.
